Yesterday the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced more than $4.3 million in grants to 13 institutions to study and improve our understanding of how certain organic compounds form in the atmosphere. Prof. Juliane Fry is among the grantees and will receive $300,000 for research over the next three years.
Julie’s research focuses on aerosols, solid and liquid particles that become suspended in the atmosphere. Aerosols can form in many ways and Julie’s research team is looking at the chemical interactions between gases produced by vegetation and gases produced by human activities, e.g., transportation and power production, that lead to aerosol formation in the atmosphere.
