Random House presents the Great Gatsby Shindig

“And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.” – Jordan, The Great Gatsby

Winch/Capeheart was alive with jazz, laughter and dance on Saturday  as flappers and their dapper dates flooded the starlit space. This past weekend Random House, Reed’s Literature Dorm, put on The Great Gatsby Shindig for the entire campus and over 100 people came to revel in the roaring 20s. As T.J. Eckleburg supervised, Reedies ate, schmoozed and chatted in the lovely space (enabled by the astounding teamwork of Random Housers who elected to decorate).

As the ever-talented Reed Jazz Ensemble played an excellent full set, students danced, made masks, and conversed in dim corners. Some enjoyed the refreshments provided as well. Random House was so excited to put on this event, and we think it showed – we can’t wait to do it again next year!

“In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.” ? F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
