Stay Calm! It’s Only Snowing

It’s flurrying in Portland today, which means that all the Southern California transplants and Portland natives are in a state of awe and/or panic. If you’re from the Northeast or the Midwest then you already know the drill, but since Reed has students from all over the US and the globe, it can’t hurt to share a few snow survival tips.

1. Bundle up! In addition to your usual winter coat, you’re going to want a hat, a scarf, gloves, and woolen socks if you’re going to be walking between Vollum and Eliot today.

2. Stock up on supplies! The earlier the better. Homer’s Hut has a limited stock of those microwave burritos, you know.

3. Stay inside! The library is an excellent place to do just that. (The Thesis Tower is usually extra toasty.)

In all seriousness: be careful of icy sidewalks and roads on cold days, and make sure to dress appropriately for the weather. But don’t be afraid of the snow! If you’re brave enough (and have the tire chains to do it safely), take a trip up to Mt. Hood to see just how fun snow can be.
