Language Houses Get Sweeter at Dessert Night

Last Friday, after Language House residents wiped the sweat off their brows from Activities Fair, we all wandered into the International Plaza for an International Dessert Night. The Russian, German, French, Spanish, and Chinese Houses, along with the Arabic Theme Dorm, baked and brought desserts from their accompanying cultures. As residents ate and mingled, an international playlist, carefully curated by the language scholars and house advisors, played in the background. Listen to it here!

Chinese House was lauded for it’s delicious coconut milk with tapioca balls; Russian House’s bliny (thin Russian pancakes) with sweetened condensed milk did not last past the first ten minutes; and German Haus’ delectable oaty-chocolatey thing was a hit.

Spanish House and French House both made mouth-watering tarts. Meanwhile Sarkawt, the Arabic Language Scholar (Arabic language classes started this week!) couldn’t make enough Lebanese tea with cardamom and cinnamon to go around.

Overall, our palates and social circles were expanded as our teeth burned from sugar.

Rating: Success.
