Comedy showcase at Reedfayre ’12

owl_n_abbot.jpgAs you’ve likely heard, Rex the King requests your presence at an event befitting the end of a glorious centennial year, Reunions ’12: Reedfayre, May 30-June 3! Have you heard the one about the prank on these humorous, impish figures that resulted in his identification with Reed President Norman F. Coleman?

An excerpt from the archives:

“In 1930, a student, or students, placed paper labels on the gargoyles as they lay on the lawn before being raised into place, according to Ellen Knowlton Johnson '39, Reed registrar, who lived on campus as a child. The prank precipitated a long-lasting rumor that each gargoyle represented a member of the Reed faculty of that time and that the king represented President Norman F. Coleman.”

(Thanks to Gay Walker ’69 for this scoop!)

Speaking of humorous hi-jinks, we’ve got a great comedy lineup slated for Reedfayre ’12, featuring Nato Green ’97, Dr. Demento, aka Barry Hansen ’63, and Paul Anderson ’92 (Dr. Demento: “’Microsoft Word’ by Paul Anderson ’92 was a big hit on my show in 1994/95—it was the #8 most-requested song of the year in 1995.”)

Other amusements that you can expect at Reedfayre ‘12:

–Reed’s Rose Festival Float

–A feast of food and drink at Gastronomy Northwest
