A deciduous conifer known for its buttress-shaped trunk. This tree was discovered both as a fossil in Japan and alive in China only in the 1940s. It had actually been in China since the time of the dinosaurs. It is a fast grower, eventually attaining 200 feet, and it has attractive, lacy needles.
