The Persian parrotia is a relative of witch hazel from northern Iran. It can be a medium-sized tree with a single trunk or a tall shrub with many trunks. Growing 20 to 40 feet high, it is known primarily for its red, yellow, and orange fall foliage and for the peeling bark that develops on older trees. It is also called “Persian ironwood” or “irontree.”
