Some are read. I suppose there&#8217;s something to be said for both. Here&#8217;s an observation on lecturing from <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Lawrence_Bragg\">Sir Lawrence Bragg<\/a> (quoted in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/content\/273\/5271\/75.full.pdf\">Science, 5 July 1996, p. 76<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I feel so strongly about the wrongness of reading a lecture that my language may seem immoderate. &#8230; The spoken word and the written word are quite different arts. &#8230; I feel that to collect an audience and then read one&#8217;s material is like inviting a friend to go for a walk and asking him not to mind if you go alongside him in your car.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I wonder what he might have said about lecturers reading the sentences on their PowerPoint slides to the audience?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some lectures are spoken.
