Detailed instructions for the report can be found within the Moodle assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>For more general information about the components of a Chem 202 lab report, please review the appendix <strong><a title=\"How to Write Lab Reports\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/chemistry201-202-test\/appendices\/how-to-write-lab-reports\/\">How to write lab reports <\/a><\/strong>for a discussion of how much experimental detail to put in the <strong>Results<\/strong> and <strong>Experimental <\/strong>sections. Remember that the <strong>Experimental<\/strong> section not only contains your detailed procedure, it also contains all of the measurements you made on your products. The <strong>Results and Discussion<\/strong> should be self-contained and\u00a0make sense without reference to the rest of the report. All parts of the report should make sense to a reader who has no access to, or awareness of, the lab manual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means you will need to include some figures or schemes of your own (remember, you may not electronically copy or scan figures from this manual, or copy or scan figures from other students).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Include in your <strong>Results and Discussion <\/strong>a schematic of your two-step synthesis, a discussion of your molecular modeling results (see below), and an analysis of the mass spectra for the starting material and product of the Wittig reaction. You will have to include the structures of several fragment ions and plausible mechanisms for their formation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In discussing your molecular modeling results, report LUMO energies (in eV) for each dienophile and identify the compound that should be more reactive according to FMO theory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reports are due TBD (will be updated before the start of the Spring, 2024 semester).
