Reedies at Spring ACS Meeting – Denver 2015

For the past several years the Reed Chemistry department has been ramping up its efforts to get student research on display at scientific conferences. This included the most recent national meeting of the American Chemical Society in San Diego (Spring 2016), but the practice goes way back. Here is a (long overdue) profile of work presented at last year’s (Spring 2015) meeting in Denver based on information provided by the attendees themselves.

Eve Mozur ’15 wrote:

I spoke at the Division of Computers in Chemistry Poster Session and my poster was called “Computed chemical properties for the functional sorting of the haloacid dehalogenase superfamily”.
Natalie (Keehan ’15) spoke at the Division of Physical Chemistry Poster Session and her poster was called “Detecting Organic Nitrates using Thermodissociation Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy”.
There is one picture of me presenting my poster, one of Natalie in front of her poster and one of Julie (Prof. Fry), Natalie and me in front of Natalie’s poster.

And Prof. Julie Fry weighed in with:

Rebecca (Prof. LaLonde) & I gave talks, and Nick (Till ’16), Natalie (Keehan ’15), and Eve (Mozur ’15) presented posters. Chronologically:

Nick’s poster “Search for an ideal selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM)” was presented in the CHED poster session Monday afternoon.

My talk titled “NO3-initiated biogenic SOA production: Insights from field and chamber studies” was presented in the PHYS division Atmospheric Chemistry symposium on Tuesday afternoon (wearing Maggie’s s**tkickers! Tom gave them to me with the instructions to use their magical powers for good – this was a perfect first outing for them 🙂 ) [Ed. note: the shoe references is to Prof. Maggie Geselbracht’s (dec. 2014) beloved cowboy boots.]

Eve’s poster “Computed chemical properties for the functional sorting of the haloacid dehalogenase superfamily” was presented in the COMP poster session Tuesday evening.

Rebecca’s talk titled “Teaching research in organic chemistry with a “guided-research” laboratory experience” was presented in the CHED division Tuesday evening.

Natalie’s poster “Detecting organic nitrates using thermal dissociation cavity ringdown spectrometry” was presented in the PHYS poster session Wednesday evening.
