Koe\u00a0 was part of the research team at Pfizer that<br \/>\ndeveloped Zoloft, one of the most prescribed SSRIs. He visited campus in August<br \/>\n2008 to receive the Vollum Award for Distinguished Accomplishment in Science<br \/>\nand Technology.<b><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/chemistry_news\/2008\/12\/arlene-blum-66-talks-to-ce-news\/\"><b>Arlene Blum &#8217;66<\/b><\/a>\u00a0 visited Reed in November 2008 to present a<br \/>\nlecture, &#8220;Breaking Trail: Mountains and Molecules.&#8221; Arlene traced her<br \/>\nevolution from beginning climber and chemistry student at Reed to expeditionary<br \/>\nleader and environmental scientist.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><b>Steve Carlson &#8217;93<\/b> joined Fish &amp;<br \/>\nRichardson P.C. as a principal in their<br \/>\nSilicon Valley office, where he focuses on patent litigation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><b>Luke Kanies &#8217;96<\/b> and <b>Cindy Ellig Kanies<br \/>\n&#8217;96<\/b> welcomed identical twins, Vivian and<br \/>\nLilian, on August 29, 2008 (see p. 47 for family photo)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><i><b>In Memoriam &#8230;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><b>Beverly Joyce Young<br \/>\nSandmann &#8217;53<\/b>, died on February 1, 2007, in Carlsbad, California. Beverly worked as a lab technician, mother, and homemaker, and was always very proud to be a Reed graduate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;font-family: Arial\"><b>Roderic Maurice Kauai<br \/>\nDale &#8217;70<\/b> died on November 4, 2008, in<br \/>\nPortland.
