His PhD will share shelf space with MS and MBA degrees that Oliver had previously collected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/chemistry_news\/files\/2013\/06\/Laeyendecker_Oliver_2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-4118\" alt=\"Laeyendecker_Oliver_2013\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/chemistry_news\/files\/2013\/06\/Laeyendecker_Oliver_2013-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Oliver wrote, &#8220;My thesis was on the development of accurate methods to estimate HIV incidence from a cross-sectional survey. It turned out to be a very productive project with lots of publications (<a title=\"PubMed: Laeyendecker\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/?term=laeyendecker\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>PubMed<\/strong><\/a>). The Johns Hopkins Center for AIDS Research asked me to do a presentation on this topic, which is available on <a title=\"YouTube:  HIV Prevention Science Update: Cross Sectional Incidence Testing and Cohort Designs\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/3o1PiEOPQsk\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>YouTube<\/strong><\/a>. This presentation had a good deal of overlap with my thesis defense.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you again for inspiring the application of rigors scientific methods so many years ago. I still treasure my memories from my days at Reed as a chemistry student.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>When Oliver isn&#8217;t in front of the office computer or the video camera, he&#8217;s busy being a father for two active children, 12 and 16.
