The Borg are coming.<\/p>\n<p>According to C&amp;ENews (7 Mar 2016, p. 9, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/cen.acs.org\/articles\/94\/i10\/UC-Berkeleys-College-Chemistry-danger.html\" target=\"_blank\">Is UC Berkeley&#8217;s College of Chemistry in danger?<\/a>&#8220;) the administration of UC Berkeley is considering doing away with its venerable College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (est&#8217;d. 1872). The chemical enterprise will remain, the story says, but it will be absorbed into the Borg Collective, better known as the College of Letters &amp; Science. C&amp;ENews quotes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcneill-group.org\/#!mcneill\/cy2g\" target=\"_blank\">Kris McNeill<\/a> (BS Reed &#8217;92, PhD UC Berkeley &#8217;97) as saying,<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;&#8230; part of Berkeley Chemistry\u2019s unique success comes from its unique structure. While such a reorganization might benefit the university, it doesn\u2019t seem like there is any way it can be better for Chemistry.
