Jeff, who is a Research Scientist\/Engineer at the Sandia National Laboratories (Livermore, CA), received the Dept. of Energy&#8217;s inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/chemistry_news\/2015\/11\/jeff-koplow-90-receives-sunshot-innovation-fellowship\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Innovator in Residence Fellowship<\/strong><\/a>. He will be presenting two talks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;Multidisciplinary Innovation in Action: 5 Inventions From the Research Group of Jeff Koplow&#8221;, 4:30 pm, Tu, Apr 5, Bio 19<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;A Reproducible Methodology for Serial Innovation: Good luck not required&#8221;, 7:30 pm, W, Psych 105<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students will also have a chance to join Jeff for lunch on Tuesday. Interested students should come to the foyer of the Chemistry Building a few minutes before noon to join the lunch party.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reed.edu\/reed_magazine\/december2011\/articles\/features\/images\/582_koplow.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"582\" height=\"395\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jeff&#8217;s been working on energy innovation for many years, and his earlier inventions offer large benefits to the US energy sector.\u00a0 These include the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frostytech.com\/articleview.cfm?articleID=2722\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Sandia Cooler<\/strong><\/a>, a much more efficient way to cool heat exchangers and CPUs; and <a href=\"http:\/\/energy.sandia.gov\/sandias-energy-program-wins-two-federal-laboratory-consortium-2015-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Twistact<\/strong><\/a> (winner of an Outstanding Technology Development Award), a new way to connect turbines to the gear box without a sliding contact, electrical arcing, or the need for rare earth metals. Jeff is also the recipient of four <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rd100awards.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>R&amp;D 100<\/strong><\/a> awards.
