I\u2019d like to introduce myself. I&#8217;m Joe Janiga, the Instructional Technologist for Performing Arts at Reed. In my first post I would like to introduce you to specialized rooms and the hardware within them at the Performing Arts Resource Center (PARC) in the Performing Arts Building (PAB), located on the west end of campus.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Room 326 has three dedicated workstations with three iMacs and three 61 non-weighted but velocity-sensitive keyboards for MIDI work. \u00a0In addition there are also three DVD players and VCR machines that are routed through the computers for viewing DVD\u2019s and VHS tapes in the library collection. This room has been popular for composers and video\/DVD viewing for dance in our first year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2322\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2322\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10561.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2322\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10561.jpg\" alt=\"PARC 326\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10561.jpg 660w, https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10561-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2322\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PARC 326<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Room 327 is a professional-grade audio\/visual editing room with a rack system that allows anyone to convert LP\u2019s, cassette tapes and VHS tapes to digital codecs. \u00a0It has a 27\u201d iMac routed through the sound system which has surround sound and an 88-key keyboard (weighted key) for MIDI work. \u00a0It has been popular for composing music and film editing, and especially for the archiving and digitizing of analog recordings and field recordings from any discipline.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2323\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2323\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10531.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2323\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10531.jpg\" alt=\"PARC 327\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10531.jpg 660w, https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/IMG_10531-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2323\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PARC 327<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Room 330 is both a conference and presentation room that has an even larger surround sound system and a very large\u00a0LCD screen for movies and presentations with the ability to act as a projector when attached to the rooms computer (iMac) or to a personal laptop.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2321\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2321\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/image_1052.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2321\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/image_1052.jpg\" alt=\"PARC 330\" width=\"660\" height=\"495\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/image_1052.jpg 660w, https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/ed-tech\/files\/2014\/08\/image_1052-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PARC 330<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In addition to the three specialized rooms we have the main room of the PARC that houses nine iMacs and a wealth of equipment available for checkout (iPads, MIDI keyboards, headphones, laptops). \u00a0All computers in the PARC have a media-focused special set of programs on them (the PARC image).<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to learn more about the PARC, our equipment, or any program, let me know.
