Because this course is a cross-listed American studies seminar, its learning outcomes are aligned with American Studies, CRES, and Religion as well as the English department.
- Engage with and critically reflect on how Jewish American culture, religion, and literature has changed from the colonial era to the present
- Feel more comfortable close reading a range of texts and objects and be able to evaluate and use primary sources.
- Formulate and execute a genuinely interdisciplinary study of Jewish American phenomenon, with American broadly understood to include transnational, hemispheric, oceanic, and global approaches to the study of American society and culture
- Think in sophisticated ways about causation, historical or religious change
- Engage with relevant scholarly literature
- Explore the way race and ethnicity can be analyzed from interdisciplinary perspectives
- Use digital tools to help you analyze and present your understanding of Jewish American studies
