Through these ancient movements, breath work, and visualizations, you will bring your nervous system to a place of quiet and balance\u2013the basics of good health. See the amazing variety of artists\u2019 books in the library\u2019s special collections. We will look at a wide range of book creations made by artists, and some by Reed students, from the 1960s to the present. Presented in the Pierce Room behind the locked door on lower level one.<\/p>\n<h4>Open Access: What It Is, Why It Matters, and How It Affects Reedies | Dena Hutto, Angie Beiriger, Ryan Clement<br \/>\n11am\u00ad-12pm | L221<\/h4>\n<p>The term \u201copen access\u201d can refer to 1) A movement that promotes the idea that scholarly journal articles, books, theses, data, and dissertations can and should be freely available to everyone; 2) A publishing model that requires authors to pay to have their books or articles published in exchange for free distribution to readers; 3) The idea that scholars should retain ownership of their work rather than signing away the rights to a journal publisher. At this session, librarians and participants will discuss each of these models and how they affect Reedies as students and scholars. We\u2019ll also discuss ways in which we can or should promote open access at Reed. Our lives are full of important papers and digital content that we want to access for the foreseeable future. Library staff will help determine the best formats for your digital materials, share tips on prepping files, and talk about options beyond Google for long-term access. We\u2019ll discuss the best way to digitize your papers or photos and prep it for storage. This session will be an informal discussion with time to do some hands-on work. Bring a project or your questions about digital preservation. SNACKS PROVIDED.<\/p>\n<h4>Lloyd Reynolds and Calligraphy at Reed | Gay Walker<br \/>\n2pm-\u00ad3pm | Meet in Library Lobby, Library 203-204<\/h4>\n<p>Lloyd Reynolds was the \u201cFather of Calligraphy\u201d at Reed College and literally brought calligraphy to the Pacific Northwest. Self-\u00adtaught in the 1930s, his calligraphy classes were wildly popular and his impact long-\u00adlasting and now revived through the weekly Scriptorium on campus. Come see his library, papers, artwork, and evidence of his impact on campus.<\/p>\n<h3>Friday, January 23<\/h3>\n<h4>So You Want To Be A Librarian | Linda Maddux, Angie Beiriger<br \/>\n1:30pm\u00ad-3pm | L221<\/h4>\n<p>Enjoy talking to people about their research?
