And just recently, Brown University has announced a new academic concentration that they call the <a title=\"Contemplative Studies Initiative | Brown University\" href=\"http:\/\/www.brown.edu\/academics\/contemplative-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Contemplative Studies Initiative<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with USA Today (June 3, <a title=\"Contemplating a New Major? June 3, 2014 | USA Today\" href=\"http:\/\/college.usatoday.com\/2014\/06\/03\/contemplating-a-new-major-try-contemplative-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>&#8220;Contemplating a New Major?&#8221;<\/strong><\/a>), <a title=\"Harold Roth, Religious Studies, Brown University\" href=\"https:\/\/vivo.brown.edu\/display\/hroth\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Prof. Harold Roth<\/strong><\/a> says that contemplative studies &#8220;looks at human contemplative experience across culture and across time from different perspectives.&#8221; The concentration requires courses in cognitive science, religion and philosophy, and concentrators can choose whether to focus their course of study on the sciences or the humanities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The role of contemplation in human affairs is gradually working its way into higher education.
