Another article that might interest those who would like to teach meditation recommends &#8216;best practices&#8217; for conducting mindfulness programs in public schools.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0191886915300556\" target=\"_blank\">Examining the predicting effect of mindfulness on psychological well-being among undergraduate students: A structural equation modelling approach<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">This research aimed to examine the predicting effects of mindfulness, self-efficacy, and social support on psychological well-being among undergraduate students at a university in the Philippines.\u00a0Mindfulness, self-efficacy, support from family, support from friends, and support from significant others were significant predictors of psychological well-being.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S1747938X15000676\" target=\"_blank\">Mindfulness-based meditation to decrease stress and anxiety in college students: A narrative synthesis of the research<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">A literature search resulted in 57 studies on the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation in reducing stress and anxiety in college students. Overall, mindfulness meditation showed promise in reducing stress and anxiety in college students, but a number of differences were revealed in how mindfulness interventions\u00a0were delivered.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/pediatrics.aappublications.org\/content\/early\/2015\/12\/16\/peds.2015-2532\" target=\"_blank\">School-Based Mindfulness Instruction: An RCT<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Researchers\u00a0evaluated an adapted mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program to ameliorate the negative effects of stress and trauma among low-income, minority, middle school public school students. 300\u00a0fifth- to eighth-grade students were assigned to either an MBSR or Healthy Topics (HT) program. While both\u00a0groups were comparable at baseline, postprogram, MBSR students had significantly lower levels of somatization, depression, negative affect, negative coping, rumination, self-hostility, and posttraumatic symptom severity\u00a0than HT students.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s12671-015-0461-0\" target=\"_blank\">Validation of the Mindfulness in Teaching Scale<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Is teacher burnout correlated with mindfulness? Multiple studies were undertaken to develop and validate a self-report measure of the Mindfulness in Teaching Scale. One study suggested the presence of two distinct factors measuring teacher <em class=\"EmphasisTypeItalic \">intrapersonal mindfulness<\/em> and teacher <em class=\"EmphasisTypeItalic \">interpersonal mindfulness.<\/em>\u00a0A separate study showed that, over a 6-month period, <em class=\"EmphasisTypeItalic \">interpersonal mindfulness<\/em> predicted scores on teacher burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization) and instructional efficacy in working with students (social-emotional and behavior management) whereas <em class=\"EmphasisTypeItalic \">intrapersonal mindfulness<\/em> failed to predict burnout or efficacy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s12671-015-0474-8\" target=\"_blank\">Strengthening Teacher Presence Through Mindfulness: What Educators Say About the Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE) Program<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Stressors place educators at risk of job-related stress and burnout. This study\u00a0describes\u00a0a mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) for school personnel called Cultivating Awareness and Resilience in Education (CARE). Results suggest this intervention holds promise in getting participants to\u00a0shift their emotional reactivity and approach to students using a three-pronged mindfulness-based approach: (1) present-centered awareness of emotions, (2) emotional reappraisal of situations, and (3) use of metaphors introduced through the CARE program.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007%2Fs12671-015-0477-5\" target=\"_blank\">Mindfulness-Based Programs and the American Public School System: Recommendations for Best Practices to Ensure Secularity<\/a> (free article)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">Questions are frequently asked about the religious basis of mindfulness-based programs and whether such programs are appropriate in a public school setting.
