{"id":229,"date":"2012-08-27T14:06:17","date_gmt":"2012-08-27T21:06:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.reed.edu\/politika\/?p=229"},"modified":"2014-03-18T10:10:22","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T17:10:22","slug":"no-go-to-nola","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/politika\/2012\/08\/27\/no-go-to-nola\/","title":{"rendered":"No go to NOLA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/i.imwx.com\/images\/sat\/regions\/spec_sat4_600_en.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imwx.com\/images\/sat\/regions\/spec_sat4_600_en.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a>The annual meeting of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apsanet.org\/content_2577.cfm?navID=5\">American Political Science Association <\/a>has never fit well with Reed&#8217;s academic calendar. \u00a0It used to be that I&#8217;d only miss the first day of advising, but now that we start classes before Labor Day, members of my department have to make a decision between the first week of classes and the main professional meeting of our discipline.<\/p>\n<p>Frustrating to be sure! \u00a0But even more so this year because the meeting looks like it may be substantially shortened or even cancelled due to Hurricane Isaac.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m hiding out in my office right now, rapidly rejiggering my syllabus to account for the sudden change in schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, Reed College will offset any costs that I might incur.
