{"id":265,"date":"2012-09-03T12:25:06","date_gmt":"2012-09-03T19:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.reed.edu\/politika\/?p=265"},"modified":"2014-03-18T10:10:22","modified_gmt":"2014-03-18T17:10:22","slug":"ezra-klein-and-scholarly-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.reed.edu\/politika\/2012\/09\/03\/ezra-klein-and-scholarly-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Ezra Klein the new David Broder?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/a0.twimg.com\/profile_images\/719729650\/screenshotheadshot_05.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"278\" \/>The buzz is already starting about Ezra Klein&#8217;s visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reed.edu\">Reed College<\/a> on September 28, kicking off this year&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reed.edu\/ppls\/\">Public Policy Lecture Series<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;m pleased that his appearance looks like it will appeal not just to students, but also faculty, staff, and community members. \u00a0I&#8217;m a bit worried that we&#8217;ll overwhelm our 350 person auditorium!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also had to field questions about whether Klein is appropriately &#8220;academic&#8221; for our little college. \u00a0That issue has been largely been put to rest&#8211;appearances by Dennis Ross, Susan Rice, among others, have demonstrated that the distinction between the world of the academy and the world of policy is a distinction without a difference. \u00a0Reedies like to think big thoughts, but they also like to see those thoughts in action.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>But Klein is more than just a journalist in my experience, and he shows his academic side in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/ezra-klein\/wp\/2012\/09\/03\/michael-woodford-may-have-written-the-years-most-important-academic-paper-heres-why\/\">today&#8217;s column<\/a> about a new article by Columbia University economist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.columbia.edu\/~mw2230\/\">Michael Woodford. <\/a>\u00a0 Klein understands political science models that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/ezra-klein\/wp\/2012\/08\/31\/forecasting-the-election-most-models-say-obama-will-win-but-not-all\/\">forecast election outcomes<\/a>.
