Reynolds<\/strong>, a program of the Douglas F. Cooley Memorial Art Gallery, is introducing a new generation of Reed students and community members to the study and practice of calligraphy and paleography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Calligraphy Initiative was founded in 2012 by Cooley Gallery Director Stephanie Snyder &#8217;91, as an outgrowth of the Cooley Gallery exhibition,&nbsp;<em>Lloyd Reynolds, A Life of Forms in Art<\/em>&nbsp;(2011), curated by Gay Walker &#8217;69 (Special Collections Librarian, Reed College) and Stephanie Snyder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull has-primary-color has-tertiary-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-77707c1f527aa4b82c202b1f392750eb is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-top:1rem;padding-bottom:1rem\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"padding-right:0;padding-left:0\">Schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Calligraphy Initiative offers a series of weekly Scriptoria, free and open to all Reed College students, staff, faculty, and alumni. All materials are provided, no prior experience necessary.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-d2da2050 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"margin-bottom:0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-6d21a3bf1f2152b22a7a7bbaf1d12151 is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"color:#000000;background-color:#ffe97d;padding-top:2em;padding-right:2em;padding-bottom:2em;padding-left:2em\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"single\" style=\"font-size:40px\"><strong>Thursday<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>6-8 P.M<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-css-opacity has-background is-style-wide\" style=\"background-color:#000000;color:#000000\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Thursday\u2019s class has typically taken an historical and paleographic approach, practicing different scripts based on historical manuscripts, and this year will be no different.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-71ed9fc030b01884a5dfaeb387a839a1 is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"color:#000000;background-color:#d1d1e1;padding-top:2em;padding-right:2em;padding-bottom:2em;padding-left:2em\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"family\" style=\"font-size:40px\"><strong>Friday<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>2-4 P.M<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>Friday\u2019s class will continue to focus exclusively on the practice of the Italic script, both formally (calligraphy) and informally (handwriting).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zoom sessions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although Reed classes are once again meeting in person, we will continue to have a remote option for those alumni who do not live in Portland. Meeting via Zoom, we will maintain our regular Scriptorium schedule.
