Beth Platte, the Instructional Technologist for Foreign Languages, informed me of this incredible feat of Latin. It’s medieval, but I couldn’t help but share. The following is the first four lines\u00a0from the\u00a0Ecloga de Calvis\u00a0<\/em>(“In Praise of Bald Men”), a ca. 9th century CE Latin poem by the Frankish monk Hucbald, with a translation by Thomas Klein:<\/p>\n

Carmina convitii cerritus, carpere calves<\/p>\n

Conatus, cecinit: celebrentur carmine calvi<\/p>\n

Conspicuo clari; carmen cognoscite cuncti.<\/p>\n

Carmina, clarisonae, calvis cantate, Camenae.<\/p>\n

(<\/span>A <\/span>brainless bloke has badly abused the bald,<\/em><\/p>\n

Composing crude carols: <\/span>so commend in <\/span>chorus<\/em><\/p>\n

The blameless bald, and <\/span>bellow t<\/span>he ballad besides.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Bless <\/span>now the bald with bright ballads, O\u00a0<\/span>Bards.<\/em>)<\/p>\n

The poem goes on for 146 lines in total, and every single word\u00a0<\/em>beings with the letter “C”.\u00a0Monks clearly knew how to have fun.<\/p>\n
