Faculty and classes for next year

For all Linguistics majors, I wanted to update you on next year’s faculty and schedule of classes. As you know, Kara Becker will be on leave next year. The college has hired Lal Zimman to replace her. Lal will be offering courses on Language and Gender, Discourse, and Advanced Topics in Language and Society (exact topic TBD), in addition to two sections of Introduction to Language, Culture, and Society.

In addition, Sameer ud Dowla Khan will be returning for another year. Sameer will be co-teaching Introduction to Linguistic Analysis, and also offering Phonetics and Phonology, in addition to a more advanced course on Laboratory Phonology, and a survey course on the Languages of South Asia.

Besides my usual course offerings (Introduction to Linguistic Analysis, Introductory Syntax, and Morphosyntactic Typology), I will probably be offering a section of Advanced Topics in Syntax.

We are currently in the process of hiring a fourth faculty member for next year, who will (probably) teach one upper-division linguistics course per semester, as well as teaching a section of Hum 110. Finalists for this position will be visiting campus in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more information about that.

All in all 2013-14 is shaping up to be a great year, with lots of interesting course offerings. Additional information on next year’s class schedule should be available by the time pre-registration begins.
