Reed College recently established a Winter ‘Externship’ program for students, which provides opportunities to shadow a professional in a given field (often a Reed alum) and learn more about career options. Externships will take place over Winter Break, January 6th-17th, 2014. Each externship lasts between two and ten days. Quoting from the materials I received:
“As of now, Life Beyond Reed has arranged 33 externships available for students, which represent about 60 opportunities (some sponsors plan to accommodate more than one student). Students have until October 15 to apply. The application is simple: three brief narrative answers and their resume. The experiences are available to first, second, and third year students only, and include students who graduate in winter of ’14.
“This year, there are more opportunities for science, medicine, law, and some interesting things in consulting, sociology, engineering, government, education, finance…. certainly some great opportunities for a wide variety of interests.”
Unfortunately there are currently no externship opportunities in linguistics, but those of you who are interested in language teaching, cognitive neuroscience, psychology, law, public policy, etc., might find something of interest. The list of opportunities can be found here.
