For those of you who haven’t heard yet, the Linguistics Society of America (LSA) annual conference will be held here in Portland this coming January 8-11, at the Hilton hotel downtown. If you’re planning to be in Portland over winter break, I would strongly encourage you to attend! This is the largest linguistics conference in the world, and provides an excellent opportunity to hear talks, participate in events, and meet linguists and students from all over the country.
More details will follow, but here’s some pertinent information:
- You must register to attend the conference. Online registration for the conference will take place from October 1 through December 19. Registrants must be members of the LSA. The student registration fee is $70, but if you agree to volunteer 8 hours of work at the conference, you will receive FREE registration.
- Besides talks on all areas of linguistics, this year’s conference will include two film screenings, interesting collaborative activities, and other events.
- The meeting will also feature special content for first-time attendees, student attendees, and linguists outside of academia.
Reed has one of the only Linguistics Departments in the state of Oregon, and we would love it if our students had a strong presence at LSA 2015. So please consider attending–and being a student volunteer!
