UCLA Lab Manager/Research Assistant Position

The Language Processing Lab at UCLA is seeking a full-time post-baccalaureate lab manager / research assistant to start September 1st, 2016, under the direction of Assistant Professor Jesse Harris.

Duties will involve managing ongoing projects on sentence processing and language comprehension in the lab, including stimulus preparing and norming, subject recruitment and running, training undergraduate RAs, and developing lab protocols. The term of appointment is initially one year with the possibility of extension, the length of which depends on funding.

The lab employs various methodologies, including large-scale online experiments, corpus development and annotation, timed behavioral judgment tasks, listening comprehension, language production, and eye tracking experiments, and has access to an EEG recording system. The successful participant will have acquired a degree in Linguistics, Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field, prior to appointment. Candidates should ideally have relevant experience running subjects and collecting data in one or more of the above methods, although the primary consideration will be on a willingness to learn methods and the ability to successfully organize the daily life of an active lab. Other desirable qualities include a background in basic programming (R, Python, Matlab, etc.), statistics, independent motivation, excellent people skills, and a deep curiosity for language and the mind.
