Michigan Humanities Emerging Scholars Program ‐ Linguistics
*Application deadline February 8, 2019*
Greetings,
The University of Michigan Linguistics Department invites you to apply to the Humanities Emerging Research Scholars (MICHHERS) program.
This all expenses paid program will bring talented undergraduate and MA students to Ann Arbor for a 12-day workshop to help you prepare to apply to a PhD in Linguistics, and to give you an overview of the opportunities and resources available for students at the University of Michigan, including Linguistics. You will meet with faculty and PhD students to talk about research in linguistics, and will have the opportunity to work on your own research project under the guidance of U-M Linguistics faculty and current PhD students. The event will also include a graduate application workshop and social gatherings with faculty and current graduate students from Linguistics and other disciplines.
The application deadline is Friday, February 8, 2019. See link for application materials that you should submit, including statements and recommendations. Send this flyer right away to two faculty you think could recommend you, so that they already know you are interested in applying.
Selected applicants will receive a $1,000 stipend for their participation in the program. Round trip travel, lodging, and on‐campus meals will also be paid by MICHHERS.
To apply, go to http://www.rackham.umich.edu/michhers
This summer program will take place from June 10 to June 22, 2019. We seek rising seniors, bachelor’s degree holders, and those currently in M.A. programs, particularly those from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in graduate education who are planning on pursuing a Ph.D. in Linguistics. Application open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents or non-U.S. citizens with DACA.
Linguistics has participated in the MICHHERS program since it started six years ago, and it is now a full two-week internship, including additional benefits, with the support of a grant from the Andrew Mellon Foundation.
Please contact us at rackmichhers@umich.edu if you have any questions. We look forward to your application.
