Last weekend, Sequoia ventured East to explore the Painted Hills!<\/p>\n

After a close encounter with private property rights, we finally arrived at the John Day beds. The Painted Hills are named after the colorful layers of its hills corresponding to various geological eras, formed when the area was an ancient river\u00a0floodplain. Different layers allude to vegetative matter, mud, silt, and shale, and fossil matter. Very cool.<\/p>\n

After some windy hiking, we set up camp, practiced skipping stones, and made dinner. We all fell asleep, bellies full, gazing at the sort of sky that is so filled with stars it\u2019s almost looks grey. It was a wonderful way to spend the weekend and celebrate another year at Reed.<\/div>\n
