Combine the peanuts, sugar, water, and salt in a microwave-safe bowl. Cook for 6-7 minutes. Stir in the butter or margarine and the vanilla and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Add the baking soda and stir quickly (the mixture will foam up a bit).
