Words, Movement, and Sounds at Centennial Reunions

For those who enjoy installations, alumni have created special spaces that participants can enjoy at their leisure during the week of Centennial Reunions, June 6-12; as these may be habit forming, repeat offenders are welcome…

GHOTI
Imagine an interactive installation where you engage with words and ideas and build an experience for fellow alumni along the way.  That is what GHOTI (pronounced “Fish”) is all about: entering the space and participating by contributing your thoughts under the various exhibit topics. Provocative oxymorons, alluring alliterations, a giant Reed-specific crossword puzzle, and sage advice are just some of the categories that lexophiles will encounter when entering this outdoor installation.  The more the merrier!  Or should we say Go GHOTI…

WANTED: Individuals who enjoy word play, especially crosswords, to help us prepare the space.  Contact Mike Teskey at teskeym@reed.edu. Interested folks will participate in a conference call and have manageable assignments to help make the space most memorable.

Movement and Sound: in this DanceMuse interactive installation, participants will move through a space and a sensor will make associated sounds.  A wiggle will elicit a sound, and so will a jump.  David Reeder ’92 is the creator of this fascinating experience and will be present for its premiere.

Calligraphy
The art of creating words and symbols by hand, and specifically the world of Prof. Lloyd Reynolds, is honored in an exhibit at the college’s Cooley Gallery.  Curator Stephanie Snyder ’91 has created a show especially for the college’s centennial that will interpret the spirit, craft, and impact that Reynolds had in the American calligraphy renaissance.
