Science Friday Explores Reed’s “Nuclear Option”

National Public Radio’s weekly science news show, Science Friday, came to Portland recently and spoke with Ilana Novakoski ’16 about Reed’s research reactor. Ilana was interviewed onstage by the show’s host, Ira Flatow, and also conducted an audio tour of reactor operations, the swimming pool, and the famous “blue glow” for Science Friday. The 12 minute segment aired on Science Friday on June 20, 2014 (“At Reed College, Nuclear Education That’s Really ‘Hands-On”). As Ilana told Ira, “When I first came here I was theater (major), um, if you work at a reactor long enough, though, you become a chem major.”
