Sullivan 3 Northside had the pleasure of getting to know their custodian, Rose. We shared introductions and stories over hot tea. Rose is from Vietnam and was sweet enough to teach us how to make Vietnamese spring rolls.
We soaked crunchy rice paper in water until it became elastic. Afterwards, we used the rice paper to wrap fillings such as shrimp, pork, glass noodles, and lettuce. We faced a challenge of wrapping as the filling kept falling out. But with Rose’s encouragement and guidance, they kept trying and finally mastered the art of spring roll wrapping.
Within hours, kommie spring rolls for those who didn’t participate vanished. Maybe the peanut sauce that Rose made for the spring rolls did the trick!
It was a great opportunity for us to learn about Vietnamese food culture and Rose’s history.
