Welcome to the Language Lab—one of the best places on campus to study! We are located in the lower level of the Hauser Memorial Library, next to the Instructional Multimedia Center (IMC). The primary function of the Language Lab is to serve as an aid to the foreign language classrooms, as well as for any independent study of languages. We have some new equipment this fall:
• 10 new 27-inch iMacs
• 10 new 15-inch MacBook Pros for checkout (use in the Language Lab only)
• 10 new Blu-ray players that can show foreign movies from the IMC
• a big screen for your movie watching pleasure
The Language Lab is a space for the language learning community and is especially useful in the evenings–come meet with a drop-in language tutor or ask tech/resource-related questions of a langlabbie (language resource assistant). The langlabbies, under the direction of Weiwei Zhang, Reed’s Foreign Language Instructional Technologist, have a wealth of language teaching and learning materials. If you are looking for any study materials, let the langlabbies or Weiwei know.
In addition class time and independent study use, you can also reserve the lab for:
• foreign movie parties
• cultural celebrations
• study-abroad presentations
• language and culture presentations
Make reservations with Weiwei (zhangw@reed.edu) at least a week in advance! Last but not least, please let us know if you have any questions regarding the language lab. We are here to help you!
Here is to Fall 2014!
