Guerrilla Gardening: Making a Seed Bomb!

seed4
This Canyon Day, nOg residents and other assorted Reed students got together to get their hands dirty and make seed bombs.

Seed bomb: a mixture of dirt, clay, and seed, melded together and allowed to dry before being slung at unsuspecting areas in need of greenery and blossoms.

The Canyon Crew generously provided us with seed harvested directly from the Canyon. After shelling the lupine and mixing it with pearly everlasting and other seed, we grabbed handfuls of clay and dirt and formed our seed bombs!

After we were done, we threw some off the bouncy bridge and into the Canyon. Don’t try this at home, kids! The Canyon is a protected area. Zac Perry gave us the go-ahead as the seed was originally from the Canyon.

The remaining seed bombs will be allowed to dry so that we may explosively deploy them in other urban areas. Field trip, anyone?

PDX Afternoon aka Cacao w/ McGriffley and ODB

What better way to spend a partly-cloudy, Portland afternoon than in the heart of downtown, sipping chocolate and munching on food cart grub?

cacaoMcGriffley and ODB took Portland by storm during a weekend excursion to Cacao and the Pioneer Park foot carts, and even took a dip into the ink&paper ocean known as Powell’s.

Get Off-Campus: WWeek Egg Hunt

easter_egg_hunt1Love Easter but miss the days of egg hunting and bunny magic? Check out the WWeek egg hunt!

Who: Everyone

Where: All over Portland

When: Now until all are found!

Why: Because egg hunts are fun! The WWeek has hidden 12 plastic eggs inside 12 of their blue paper distribution boxes around the city. Open a box and reach up to see if there’s an egg taped to the top! Each egg has a code, email the code to the WWeek and receive a fabulous prize! Check the link below for hints to the locations.

How: Each egg is in a different spot, so you’ll have to figure out transportation based on which one you’re going for. Probably a car/bike is best if you want to try for more than one!

McGriffley in the Fort in the Cabin in the Snow

A few residents of McGriffley wandered up to the Ski Cabin two or three weeks into the semester this year, and created a most bodacious creation.

Step-by-step instructions were VERY CAREFULLY FOLLOWED.

Step 1. Work as a team! – to assemble materials.

2. Communicate and plan layout, as a team!3. Set up as a team!

Step 4. Get excited!

Step 4. Get excited!

C’mon, y’all! We made a fort! Let’s GET EXCITED!

C’mon, y’all! We made a fort! Let’s GET EXCITED!

Okay, now let’s cuddle.

Okay, now let’s cuddle.

And so we made a fort.

Guess what we did after that! We cuddled in the fort and told stories until it was time to play in the sauna. So we cleaned up the fort, as a team, and then went and played in the sauna and snow.

And that is the story of McGriffley and the Cabin Fort.

Bibliomancer Gary comes to the nOg!

Below is a lovely photo of our beloved Head of Campus Security, GARY GRANGER!granger.png

He came into the Danger Room in McGriffley in early December and, dressed as a wizard, read to us from a few of his favorite children’s books. Behind him our Definitely-Not-Christmas-Tree and Menorah light glowed and at his feet we cuddled on blankets and ate Oreos. We were transported back to childhood and forgot about the impending exams. It was a lovely and cozy winter night in the nOg.
