Banned books week (October 5 – 11, 2025), was established back in 1982 by the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom in response to a rise in the number of challenged books in libraries, bookstores, and schools. The tradition has continued through to the present day in 2025. This year’s theme is Censorship Is So 1984 — Read for Your Rights. Enjoy our featured digital collection of all the Banned Books we have at Reed Library to celebrate your right to read! The digital exhibit was created by your fellow Reedie Willow Picket ℅ 26’. We appreciate Willow’s contribution and work to help us celebrate Banned Books week.

Kick off the celebration of reading all things banned by attending our Silent Reading event Thursday October 2, 2025 from 6:30pm-7:30pm. We will have exclusive Banned Books Week SWAG, a banned books guessing game, and plenty of time to relax and curl up with your favorite banned book!
