The library and IT have selected a new platform to host Reed’s digital collections. We will move to TIND, a platform for institutional repository materials, digital archives content, and visual resources assets.
Reed Digital Collections (RDC) supports teaching and learning at Reed College by providing access to high-quality free and licensed images, used often in Art courses and HUM 110; digitized Special Collections and Archives material, including the Quest archives, historical photographs and documents, and more; the digital repository for senior and MALS theses, the Reed College Etheses Collection; and some course-specific collections developed by faculty. Our support for these services will continue.
Moving our collections to TIND enables us to focus on curating content and collaborating with you. We’re especially excited for the accessibility improvements and digital preservation support for e-theses and other irreplaceable digital materials.
We will begin the migration process in August 2025 and anticipate a launch in the summer of 2026. Stay tuned for a preview in Spring 2026. RDC will continue to be available on its existing platform throughout the migration and will run concurrently with the TIND platform for a period.
The software currently providing access to RDC was built over ten years ago as a collaboration between the Library and Reed IT. This homegrown software has served us well over the past decade, but it requires a significant amount of staff time and effort on both the IT and Library sides to keep it running and usable. We’re excited to continue to support faculty and student use of digital materials more sustainably.
